Energy Increase from Interval Training

As many of you know I'm a huge fan of changing your workout up and not doing the same exercise over and over.
Research comes out daily showing how beneficial interval training is for our health. This study showed that after only 3 weeks of interval training our bodies ability to process and create energy was drastically improved! And the older someone was, the better results they saw!
"The younger volunteers in the interval training group saw a 49% increase in mitochondrial capacity, and the older volunteers saw an even more dramatic 69% increase."

Start today and you will basically see an instant boost in your energy and your bodies ability to process food.

Melatonin Levels May Lower Risk of Cancer

In a lab setting you gave give animals cancer by not allowing them to sleep for extended periods of time. Sleep is when the body heals and if the body isn't healing properly cancer will form.
This study shows a direct correlation between prostate cancer and melatonin levels which is correlated with lack of sleep.
"Higher levels of melatonin, a hormone involved in the sleep-wake cycle, may suggest decreased risk for developing advanced prostate cancer."
Get to bed and do as much as you can to get good quality sleep!

E-cigarettes Helping Smokers Quit

"Smokers that switched from cigarettes to vaping had 97.5% lower levels of a certain carcinogen linked to cancer compared to smokers."

Everyone knows smoking is not healthy, but it's very addicting. If you know someone who won't quit smoking at least try to get them to make this transition to vaping, research is showing it to be very favorable when it comes to reducing cancer risk.

Addiction to Opioids

Every medical conference or meeting I have been to in the past few years has addressed this problem. It's a huge issue and if it isn't fixed soon it will ruin a lot of lives. The life of a chronic opiate user is devastating and it impacts almost every family in some aspect.
"So, with an initial 10-day opioid prescription, about one-in-five patients become long-term users. That’s according to the new study’s lead author Bradley Martin, a professor of pharmaceutical evaluation and policy at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science. It’s a fast rise, Martin said to Ars. “We really didn’t expect that.”"

Managing pain naturally instead of jumping right into medications is key.

Increase Magnesium to Decrease Disease

Magnesium levels are highly associated with heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

"The researchers, from Zhejiang University and Zhengzhou University in China, found that people in the highest category of dietary magnesium consumption had a
  • 10% lower risk of coronary heart disease
  • 12% lower risk of stroke
  • 26% lower risk of type-2 diabetes
compared to those in the lowest category."

The best source is from green leafy vegetables! An easy way to do that is through veggie shakes.

If you aren't eating enough green leafy vegetables, make sure you supplement with magnesium that is GMP Certified (we recommend and carry Anabolic Laboratories supplements). Therapeutic dose typically starts around 300 - 400 mg per day.

Magnesium is also crucial for digestion and beneficial for people with migraines

Live A Healthy Life

Health is cumulative. You have to focus on all aspects of health if you want to be healthy.
Exercising a lot and eating junk food might make you look good but it will eventually cause inflammation and internal health issues.

Prescription Drugs

In 2015 the average American took 13 prescription medications.
Seniors over 65 years old take substantially more and even kids average 4 prescription medications per year.
The United states spends massively more than any other country on health care, but is rated dead last when it comes to the overall health of our country. As of 2015 we spent 3 trillion dollars per year on health care which is 17% of our Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
More drugs doesn't equal more health.

Inflammation In The Body

The food you put into your mouth either increases or decreases inflammation and swelling in your body.
Inflammation leads to disease and sickness.
The most popular over the counter medications in the United States are NSAIDS (non steroidal anti inflammatory Drugs).
This tells us that many people are in pain and inflamed. And instead of removing the problem (inflammatory foods), they are just covering it up with pain medications.

Probiotic Benefits

People who took probiotics for 4 weeks had less sad/bad feelings than those who didn't.
Our stomach and intestines are called our second brain because they are so interconnected to our overall health and emotion. The worse shape your digestive health the worse your mood is going to be on a regular basis.
Another study came out recently that concluded gut health was highly correlated with longevity.
If you aren't already, consider taking a daily probiotic, or maximizing your probiotics through sauerkraut, kefir or tempeh.
Also, remove processed sugar as it destroys the good bacteria in your stomach and intestines.

Dietary Fiber Intake

Are you eating enough high fiber foods on a daily basis? Those who eat the most fiber were found to have an 80% greater chance of living a longer and healthier life.
Many people know that increased fiber intake will keep their digestion regular, but they don't realize how important that is for overall health.
"Essentially, we found that those who had the highest intake of fiber or total fiber actually had an almost 80 percent greater likelihood of living a long and healthy life over a 10-year follow-up.

Average Life Expectancy

Average life expectancy is rising across the globe except for in the U.S.
If you are living like the average American then you have to expect to be sick like the average American population.
Also, these numbers are deceiving. For the United States the life expectancy is around 80 years old, a little less for men and a little more for women. However, most people are not actually living until they are 80 years old, they are just surviving.
Many people start developing chronic conditions in their 40's and 50's and are not living life to the fullest extent because they are dealing with their health problems. In my opinion, many people in the United States are only living until they are 50 but are surviving until they are 80.
Are you living or surviving?

Vote for Health Food

Image may contain: fruit and foodEvery time you buy something you are voting for that product. The only way we will change our food system to get healthier options is to buy healthier options on a regular basis.

Small health food companies are very expensive to run and they need all the support they can get. Just because something is carried at a large grocery store doesn't mean the company is successful financially.

I see new health food products come and go from the stores on a regular basis because people aren't buying them.

All companies will change to the demand of the customers, If people started to only order salads at McDonald's then they would turn into a healthy restaurant. We know that's not going to happen, but we have to start somewhere!

Naturally Occuring Compound Increases Metabolism

Cooked Broccoli SoupA compound called NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide) found in broccoli, cabbage, cucumber, edamame and avocado was found to improve metabolism, aid in weight loss and improve energy!

"NMN administration helps energy metabolism by improving the function of mitochondria, which operate as cellular power plants. They also found that mice given NMN gained less weight with aging even as they consumed more food, likely because their boosted metabolism generated more energy for physical activity."

Another reason to eat these foods on a daily basis. I always use avocado in my shakes, and I steam broccoli and add grass fed butter and sea salt and eat that on a daily basis as well!

Are you Skinny or Skinny Fat?

"I'm skinny so I can eat what I want!"

Just because you are skinny doesn't mean you are healthy. In fact there are more sick diabetic or pre-diabetic skinny people than there are sick obese people when you look at the stats and the whole U.S. population.

Pre-diabetic levels are measured by:

1. Fasting Insulin below 5, ideally below 3
2. Fasting blood glucose of 100-125 mg/dl
3. A1C below 5.7

These are tests that would be beneficial to have done annually, and even more often if you have problems. If your levels are just starting to get high, you can actually change them for the better within 2 weeks of changing your lifestyle!

New study finds colorectal cancer rates rising in Gen X and millennials

A recent study by the American Cancer Society found that Colorectal cancer rates rising in Gen X and millennials.

This is an alarming trend and research has shown that one out of two people will get cancer in their lifetime.

The good news is that many cancers are believed to be lifestyle related, so if you can take control of your lifestyle your risk of those diseases is drastically reduced.

Epigenetic research shows that 70 - 98% of health conditions are lifestyle related.

"Dr. Cercek of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center said the increase is not linked to family history, so environmental factors are likely to blame.

Some of it may be due to the fact that there have been changes in young people, in the millennial generation, in terms of a more sedentary lifestyle, dietary changes, obesity may play a role but that is not really clear,” Dr. Cercek said.
